Description
Preparations from corn silk are prescribed as a choleretic agent for cholecystitis, cholangitis, hepatitis and cholelithiasis. In addition, due to the content of vitamin K3, they can be prescribed for bleeding associated with a decrease in prothrombin levels, with an overdose of indirect anticoagulants, as well as with hemorrhagic diathesis, uterine bleeding, hemorrhages in the vitreous body, with conjunctival hemorrhages. As a diuretic, they are prescribed for urolithiasis, bladder stones, cystitis and prostatitis, diseases accompanied by micro- and macrohematuria, glaucoma, and edema of cardiac origin. A water decoction and infusion of stigmas collected during the milky-wax maturity of corn are used for liver diseases, jaundice, cholelithiasis, cystitis, urolithiasis, kidney and bladder diseases.
Traditional medicine of Ukraine recommends a decoction of corn stigmas for liver diseases, jaundice, uterine, pulmonary, hemorrhoidal bleeding, edema of cardiac origin and as a sedative.
In the traditional medicine of Belarus, a water decoction of corn stigmas is widely prescribed for liver diseases, cholelithiasis, kidney diseases, and bladder diseases. Tincture and liquid extract of corn stigmas are used as a choleretic, diuretic and hemostatic agent.
In Bulgaria, corn silk preparations are recommended as a hemostatic agent, a diuretic for urolithiasis and bladder stones, as well as for cholangitis, cholecystitis, hepatitis, diabetes, tapeworms and as an appetite suppressant. It is used for obesity.
