For the first time, a military headdress of the “Panama” type, began to be used in the Red Army (RKKA) even before the Second World War, in 1935 it was included in the list of military uniforms in the Central Asian, North Caucasian, and Transcaucasian Military Districts, and was intended to be worn in places with a hot climate. Military tropical Panama was made of cotton fabric, had margins seven centimeters wide, the dome was sewn from four wedges, and a star was sewn on the front. Panama received particular fame thanks to war reports during the Afghan conflict, it was after this war that Panama began to be called “Afghan”.
